Dance at home and elsewhere …
Paul Wizzy
1. What is dancing
Dancing can be perceived as a spontaneous reaction of the body to rhythmical sounds, music.
This ability has been given to human beings as well as other species like parrots, sea lions and
maybe also some others, which is subject to further research.
“I’m always very true to the music and I honour the music in the way I see it.”
Matthew Bourne
2. Rhythm
Rhythm (from Greek rhythmos) is any regular repetition of a sound or a motion, which can
provoke a need to start moving in line with it.
A regular repetition of these essential features in rhythm then evokes feelings of pleasure and
satisfaction.
Reactions evoked this way are then projected into movements, and the fusion with rhythm and
music then releases energy that provides the dancer with pleasant emotional and physical
experience.
3. Where to start?
So the source of dancing is a certain regular rhythm, or music with a regular, mostly constant
rhythm – we call it dance music.
To begin with, just choose a rhythm or dance music that you like very much,
music that touches your heart and soul.
The music of your choice should bring you joy, release and good mood, and make you
start moving, dancing.
Enjoy…
„The people who do not dance are the dead.“
Jerry Rose
